Autism Testing FAQs: What to Expect and How to Get Started
Let’s review some common questions parents and caregivers have regarding autism testing.
When should I get my child tested for autism?
Autism testing can start as soon as you notice signs. Most children are diagnosed around 4-7 years old, but diagnosis can happen long before or after that. Early testing could be the first step in early, effective treatment.
Do you offer autism testing for teens and adults?
Yes, CNLD Testing & Therapy provides autism testing for all age groups. Diagnosis is most common in children, but we see plenty of adults who were misdiagnosed or never tested at all.
What are the signs of autism?
The most common signs of autism are avoiding eye contact, getting overstimulated by light/sound, hyperfocusing on select interests, and excessively repeating movements/phrases. However, autism is a spectrum. It affects every person a little differently. This is why testing is so important.
How common is autism?
Approximately 1 in 44 children have been diagnosed with autism. This does not accurately reflect how many people have autism – only how many have been diagnosed. Improvements in testing and awareness will likely increase that number over time.
