Development & School Readiness Testing
Many parents wonder if their child is developing at the right pace. Is my child developmentally advanced, on target, or developing too slowly? When should s/he be meeting developmental milestones – early? On time? Slower than expected? Is s/he interacting with his/her peers in an age-appropriate way?
Although most people develop normally, some present with early developmental delays, evident in their communication skills, fine motor skills, thinking skills, emotional issues, and social interactions. Other children develop at an advanced rate and may need accommodations to fuel their rapidly growing minds. Through development and school readiness testing, we can determine where your child fits on the spectrum and recommend the best path to improve his or her quality of life. What Is Developmental Testing?
Developmental assessments are for children as young as two years old. If a child shows signs of developmental delays, the developmental testing process can pinpoint where those delays may be so caretakers can execute the appropriate response. Early identification of a child’s unique strengths and weaknesses, combined with early interventions, tends to be most useful approach in helping children close these developmental gaps.
What Is School Readiness Testing?
As a parent, deciding whether or not your child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development are ‘school ready’ can be difficult. Is my child ready for school, or should I wait another year? Is there anything I need to do to prepare my child for school? School readiness testing provides answers to those questions, along with in-depth evaluations of a child’s pre-academic skills.
It’s becoming more and more important to identify academic strengths and weaknesses in order to predict a child’s long-term academic outcome. Children who demonstrate a good mastery of early academic skills tend to perform to their full potential as they progress through school. Through school readiness testing and educational advocacy, you can put your child on the best path for success.
