| Specialties ![]() Services | Roger E. Lauer, Ph.D. - Director Roger E. Lauer, Ph.D., is a fully licensed psychologist in the State of Michigan who is formally trained as a clinical neuropsychologist. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan (U-M). Prior to attending U-M, he worked at the Childrens Hospital of The Menninger Foundation. Dr. Lauers area of research specialization while in graduate school was developmental and emotional issues impacting learning and memory. After finishing his doctorate, Dr. Lauer completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical Center (UMMC). Subsequently, he worked as a staff psychologist within the Neuropsychology Division at the UMMC. After leaving UMMC, Dr. Lauer became a clinical supervisor within the St. Joseph Mercy Health System and he worked as a consulting neuropsychologist to various private schools and clinics. He has since moved into full-time private practice, but he maintains an adjunct faculty appointment within the Department of Psychology at U-M. Dr. Lauer continues to teach and give talks on a regular basis. He holds membership in numerous professional organizations including the American Psychological Association, the Michigan Psychological Association, the International Neuropsychological Society, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the Learning Disabilities Association of America, the International Dyslexia Association, the Autism Society of America, and the Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Lauer is also on the professional advisory board of the Learning Disabilities Association of Michigan and the Ann Arbor Autism Foundation. Dr. Lauers private practice is focused extensively on neuropsychological diagnosis, assessment and intervention of learning, attention and developmental disorders. He approaches his work from a strength-based model focusing on islands of competence to improve self-esteem around learning. He works with children, adolescents and adults who struggle with learning disabilities, ADHD, autistic spectrum disorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic disorders, neurological illness and injury, and psychiatric/emotional issues. Within the local community, Dr. Lauer maintains a large referral network of speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, tutors, performance coaches, memory trainers, psychotherapists, and medical personnel to develop and manage the most thorough plan of intervention that best serves the needs of his clients. Finally, Dr. Lauer provides long-term management and follow-up for clients in order to track progress, provide parent and individual guidance, consult with schools and maximize intervention plans.
